Local schools are an important part of a community, it brings families and friends together to work as one and improve community, it’s so important people feel part of a community it ensures all feel responsible and respectful for the area they live in, it’s better for the environment, it’s better for parents, grandparents and careers to be able to deliver their children to school without the need travel.

Schools need to stay open .

I’ve signed because, my cousins kids go to that school, and my aunt works at the school, it will have a big affect on them both so want to save the school.

A lovely school with such kind and caring staff

Oak field serves its community. There are smaller, less well maintained schools in the area. I believe the council want the site for development to generate some income.
Why not merge Oakfield and St Mary’s as has been done with Christ the King.

It’s a lovely large school site and has had new buildings in recent years.
It would be a great shame to close the school.

Closing Oakfield is absolutely the wrong thing to do!

This School is officially in one of the most deprived areas in England. It is a Christian school , closely connected with St Johns church. It is trying to do its best, with a majority of SENs and many pupils from poor families. A Breakfast Club exists, and a Community Pantry which is run by volunteers is also well used . All supported by the wonderful, caring Headteacher and staff.

I am signing because it would be a travesty to close a Christian School that received OUTSTANDING in its last Church assessment. It has 70% SENs with insufficient funding, is oversubscribed, unlike some schools and does a superb job, by teachers that give 110% always.

I think the idea is ridiculous, it is a large school with a lot of pupils. Where do they think these children will go for their education when there are no spaces available in other schools in th area

this closure represents utter insanity. This is a much needed school with a rich history.

I used to work there and it is a fab environment and much needed school in Ryde!

Believe in Oakfield Primery School is an excellent school and there are lot of children in the area. Children should not be transport to a school outside the area they live in.

I can not believe this proposal is even being considered. With all the new houses being planned to be built in Ryde and new developments already being established, where will all these children go. This is and has always been a brilliant school, with fantastic teachers, teaching assistants and staff, who these children depend on for the best start in there education. It will be devastating for the Ryde community if this was to close.

My younger brother Arthur goes to Oakfield and after being really unhappy at Nettlestone he is happy again. I do not want to see him have to make a change of school again and see him crying himself to sleep again like he did before.

access to local primary education is important to communities and sustained transport ie not using the car!

I have an SEN daughter and know how valuable the school is

It’s ridiculous to close schools.

In my opinion this change will affect the life’s of people from and on the Isle of Wight forever and this is not the answer.

It is wrong to put this on to families.

I went there when it was a secondary school. Changing schools is detrimental to learning.

Michael Johnson (RYDE, 2024-09-11)

I'm signing as when I lived on the Isle of Wight my eldest son went to this school and so did all my sisters it's a school that is needed and so local to alot of families that have children going or are already in school

Naomi Gray (Halifax, 2024-09-11)

A friend of mines child goes to this school and has started to thrive since being there.

Sophia Brading (RYDE, 2024-09-12)

I'm signing because my son attends this school. We love it! The schools location is perfect and suits us well. The teachers are amazing and my son is so happy here.

Charlie Bradley (Ryde, 2024-09-12)

Because I don’t feel like this school should be shut down as there’s a lot of people with Mental Health and maybe get panicking and not take their kids to school

Lucy Blayney (Isle of Wight, 2024-09-13)

#1146

This school is a huge support to us as a family

Carly Holland (Ryde, 2024-09-13)

The children of the island need good schools and shouldn’t have their education impacted especially in early years due to the local authority thinking it’s acceptable to cut budgets for schools they have millions of pounds siphoned off and should cut elsewhere

Corey Scott (Bonchurch, 2024-09-14)

#1153

I use to go to the school and it was a very good school and shouldn't be closed

Ian Merkel (Woodley, 2024-09-14)

#1163

It seems ridiculous to have 3 primary schools on 1 side of Ryde leaving people on the other side of the bridge very long walks with young children etc. Oakfield also has a brilliant reputation for taking children who need special needs and additional help and also helping all children who attend school.

Jacqueline Mitchell (Ryde, 2024-09-16)

Closing the school would be detrimental to the future of the Isle of Wight

My grandson goes to this school after being at a school that was not catering to his acquirements on his EHCP.
Since being here he has come on so well with his confidence and education.

Sarah Pateman (Ryde, 2024-09-16)

#1169

My child with SEN goes there - it’s a school perfectly equipped for him and his needs

Ian Lawton (Isle of wight, 2024-09-16)

#1178

All 4 of my children went to this school. It is the best school for children with SEN. They went above and beyond to help my children and us in any way possible. They are amazing. If this school closes it will be tremendous loss to all of the families in the Oakfield area.

Emma Huyton (Ryde, 2024-09-17)

#1179

Since attending Oakfield after moving from another Primary School in the area due to lack of support, our family member has began to thrive thanks to the exceptional support received at Oakfield primary, it would be a backward step in their education to have to start somewhere new again.

Jenna Viney (Brighstone, 2024-09-17)

Too many primary schools have closed on the Island. The disruption to the children’s lives can cause unexpected problems, well into adult life.

Caroline Pickersgill (East Cowes, 2024-09-17)

#1184

I can't understand why the new school buildings went ahead, with all the disruption to the whole school family, then to say it will close with a repetition of the family disruption

Terrie Burland (Sandown, 2024-09-18)

#1185

I believe it's in the best interest of my community to keep this school open

Scott Maclean (Isle of wight, 2024-09-18)

#1189

Closing schools will put pressure on teachers and children and is not the answer !
Some families already struggle to get thier kids to school and some need more support with familiarity! Which they will not get when other schools are too hectic and over populated

Debbie Fry (I. o.w, 2024-09-19)

#1190

This would be my sons closest school in September

Robert Castle (Ryde, 2024-09-19)

#1191

I'm signing this because it is my grandson's catchment school for where he lives in Ryde.

Julie Castle (Blackpool, 2024-09-19)

#1192

This would be my sons chosen school in September

Janitha Early (Ryde, 2024-09-19)

#1193

It is short sighted because if they are building lots of new houses in Ryde we will need school places for them. Also a complete waste of money would have been spent building it only 10 years ago.

Gillian Hall (Ryde, 2024-09-19)

#1194

The teachers are so aware of the pupil’s backgrounds and compassionate, kind and loving to each of them, it would be an injustice to close the school

Hazel Duval (Ryde, 2024-09-19)
